State Representative Joan Ballweg (R-  Markesan) will receive the “Friend of Grocers” award from the Wisconsin Grocers Association on Monday, October 17, 2016 at 9:00 a.m. at Piggly Wiggly, 450 N. Margaret St. in Markesan . The “Friend of Grocers” award is given to legislators who score highly on the WGA’s Legislative Report Card – an extensive study of all legislators’ performance in the 2015 - 2016 Legislative Session.

Lawmakers are graded according to their actions on certain issues that are especially important to the grocery industry, including: liquor invoicing legislation; allowing grocers to sell growlers; and several labor issues.

This is the fifth Friend of Grocers award Representative Ballweg has received. Representative Ballweg championed legislation to allow grocery stores to fill and sell growlers. “The WGA appreciates Rep. Ballweg’s tenacity and leadership in her efforts to pass the growler bill,” said Michelle Kussow WGA Executive Vice President.

“As a small business owner herself, she understands the grocers desire to provide their customers with numerous options and the latest innovations,” added Kussow.

The award will be presented to Representative Ballweg by Michelle Kussow along with Ted Robland Brandon Sosinski from Piggly Wiggly.

Members of the media are invited and encouraged to attend.
